Colonial Western Scholars' Narrative Negated

Another narrative propagated by Colonial Western Scholars gets negated ,Greek presence in ancient India - Legends suggesting that the Kalash people of Pakistan's Hindu Kush mountains are direct descendants of Alexander the Great’s soldiers have been largely debunked by modern DNA analysis. While some studies in the past hypothesized a "mixing event" around the time of Alexander's invasion (~327 BC), newer, more comprehensive genomic analyses (such as those summarized in a Nature study) suggest the Kalash represent an ancient, pre-Indo-Aryan population that maintained its unique genetic profile in isolation. Based on the results of the study Kalash might represent the contemporary population presenting closest genetic similarity with a pre-Indo-Iranian Neolithic population of the North Pakistan which have not had a significant admixture with Paleolithic South Asians.

Rather than direct descendants of 4th-century BC Greek soldiers, DNA suggests the Kalash are descended from a highly drifted ancient North Eurasian population that arrived in the region long before Alexander. Some studies suggest they separated from other South Asian populations roughly (8,000) to (11,000) years ago.
